Toronto (June 7) & London (May 17) Meetups

The first Toronto Awkward Meetup is here!

Date: Saturday, June 7
Time: 3:00 p.m.
Place: Disgraceland (http://www.disgraceland.ca/ | 965 Bloor St W)
I’ve never seen a Toronto meet-up for awkwardeers, so I’m giving it a go. My suggestion is to meet at Disgraceland for mid-afternoon snacks and/or drinks. The closest intersection is Dovercourt/Bloor, which is a few blocks away from Ossington Station.
There are loads of vegan and vegetarian options, as well as gluten-free. Apps and mains can be had for under $10, although you’re welcome to come just for the company. There are board games available too. The restaurant is accessible, except for the washrooms, which are in the basement.
I’ll be there a few minutes early and I’ll bring a copy of “Hark, A Vagrant!” to the table. My Twitter handle is @writingquirky.
Kate has sent the reminder for the monthly London gathering:
Dear all,

May’s meetup is the 17th!

Southbank Centre, SE1 8XX near Waterloo station, 11am onwards.

For this month’s theme, bring or talk about something awesome. This can be any of the following:

Since I don’t have a new icebreaker idea yet, we’re going to re-do the colouring one.
If you can, please bring coloured pens, pencils etc., and/or things to colour in.  These can be either anything out of copyright you can find on the web, or printups of CA slogans such as ‘House of Bees’, or your best drawing of a golden retriever of love, or a rageasaurus.  Or just come as you are!

This venue is working out really well.

They sell food in a cafe (standard sandwiches etc.), but they also don’t mind people bringing food in from outside. There are several other local places where you can buy stuff as well. The excellent food market outside has loads of different food options, which can fit most food requirements, or you can also bring a packed lunch.

Meet on the fourth floor, outside the Blue Bar (go up in the JCB lift, lift 7, which is bright yellow and quite musical).  If you have been to a meetup previously on the second floor, we are now in the equivalent place horizontally, but two floors up vertically, if that makes sense?

I will have my Cthulhu with me, which looks like this: http://forbiddenplanet.com/3950-cthulhu-baby-plush/ I have long brown hair and glasses.

The venue is accessible via a lift, and has accessible toilets.

The London Awkward group has a Facebook page, which is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/549571375087294/.  There is also a thread in the new forums for saying hello.

My email is Kate DOT Towner AT Gmail DOT com

(June meetup will be on the 14th.)

Cheers,

Kate

And don’t forget, Chicago is also meeting up this Saturday.

    1. Unfortunately I’m at a wedding that day, or I would be there. Just want to let you know that I am thrilled to see a Toronto meet-up and am already looking forward to another in the future!

    2. I am! Thanks for organizing! I was disappointed I couldn’t make it to the last one.

      1. That is to say – I’m really interested in attending a Toronto meetup in the future!

      2. Best of luck with your bar exam! I’m hoping to organize another one of these in the summer – maybe we can do a straw poll for dates.

    3. I will try, even though I’m halway a lurker! I love Hark, A Vagrant! and think it is an excellent totem for the meetup.

  1. I’d love to go, and I love Disgraceland, but I have a very important concert to go to and I’m not the sort of person that can handle two big social interaction events in one day (or even in the same weekend).

  2. Also interested in the Toronto meetup, but can’t make this one (out-of-town guests). Next time!
