As you read this, I’m either on my way or already in Texas and will be there about 10 days visiting boyfriend’s family. It’s his first Christmas home in years and years (the curse of the retail worker), so his mom is pretty darn excited about it.
I’ll have irregular, “reading this on my phone” internet access. I’ll do my best to clean the spam filter periodically, but I’m closing questions for a bit so I don’t come back to a pile-up. Twitter will probably be the easiest way to reach me if you need something quick, and the forums will likely be hopping.
In the meantime, I wish you happy (Happyish? Coping? At least there’s decent liquor/one nice person I can talk to here?) winter holiday of the next week or so. We’ll talk again in 2014.
have a wonderful visit! happy anything that anyone celebrates even if it’s just making it through the next two weeks to everyone!
Thanks for this year.I hope you have a good trip. (I’m picturing everyone you’ll met in Texas as varying degrees of Sheldon Cooper.)
While I’m here: thanks to everyone lurking and/or commenting for making this such a great place.
Enjoy your holidays!
Happy holidays, Captain and Awkwardeers.
Envy! I’m suffering the Curse of the Retail Worker myself, and although I’m in my hometown, my entire family has moved away. Luckily the boyfriend’s family is super cool and delighted to have me, but I’m still sad to have Christmas without my mom. 😦
Enjoy your trip!
We are in the last stages of preparations for our SUMMER holiday away for Christmas 🙂 Shame its forecast to rain the whole 6 days…
Yay for summer holidays. Here thursday is forecast as sunny and hot.
Thanks for a great year of posts Captain! Reading through blog was an awesome refuge during some hard stuff thus year. And to any other Aussie/south-of-the-equator readers, happy summer holiday!
Thank you for all the recent posts. They have been instrumental in helping me examine my thoughts and feelings, and make constructive choices on how I wish to spend time with family and friends. Have a marvelous trip. Thank you to everyone. Happy Hols. It’s going to be a great New Year!
Enjoy! I saw a post on Tumblr that advised interrupting family arguments by standing up and yelling “I WILL TAKE IT! I will take the Ring to Mordor, though I do not know the way.”
If anyone tries this, I want to know how it goes.
Please, please if anyone does this, give a report.
Oh, Happy ChrisKwanzukkahStice to those that celebrate one or more.
Any advice, commenteriat, on what one can do if one is completely alone for Christmas?
Like I am working xmas eve and boxing day but have the day itself off (curse of the media intern). My family are all in other places, my friends are few and either away or celebrating with their own families. No one I know even tangentially is having an ‘orphans Christmas’… imma be all by myself. Any suggestions other than “drink a lot and make with the sleeping? “
Is there a tv show or a movie series you’d like to marathon? I don’t do this often and sometimes enjoy that if I’m going to be alone, especially if I make myself some nice snacks (I love dips & good crackers) or some punch/hot cider/etc to drink all day.
Also depending on the weather where you are, it might be fun to get out and take a walk? I’m in a fairly temperate area but I suppose if you have snowdrifts up to your waist it may not be that fun. I love to take photo-walks around my neighborhood if I’m feeling lonely or just need to get out of the house for a bit.
Best wishes for a happy day, however you manage to wrangle it. =)
In addition to accidentalbeard’s suggestions (all sounded good to me), see what businesses are open on that walk – bars can be fun on a holiday with other holiday orphans or just people escaping family to talk to.
A Jewish friend of mine volunteers at a Jewish nursing home so the Christian celebrating staff can be with family – I thought that was awesome and if I fine myself without family obligations some Christmas, I know what I’ll be doing.
My wife kicked me out today, so I am having the merriest of Christmases. I hope everyone else is having a significantly happier time!
Oh gosh, Cuntess! I hope you find your feet and stay warm (or cool, I suppose, depending on your hemisphere.) Jedi hugs your way.
