I had this note in my inbox today:

Ahoy Captain!I’m newly moved to Oxford, and I thought what better way to meet some new awesome people than by organising a meetup?
It’s quite short notice, but I’m gonna hold it on Saturday 5th October at 2pm-4pm. I’ll be at Greens Cafe on St Giles with a copy of The Beauty Myth and a small sign reading “Well, This is Awkward”.
Greens Cafe does vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free food, and the menus can be found here if people need more detailed information. Their website also contains a map. I am assured by a friend that the venue is accessible, and I’m swinging by there tomorrow to double check. Details will appear on the facebook event page. I will also post in the CA comments for our non-FB users.
I can be contacted @caitlinwinjah
Thanks!
Oxfordeers, have a great time.
Good luck Oxford meetup from the London meetup, which is also meeting that day!
I’m not free on the 5th, but I have been wondering for a while how many Oxford people are reading – especially people who don’t already know me in person! Say hi 🙂
And have fun at the meetup, meeting up people!
I will be in that part of town on Saturday, and should be able to drop in for a coffee. And hi Shani, I think I know you from a local monthly club night 🙂
DAMMIT. I just moved away from Oxford less than a month ago! Oh well. Have loads of fun, I will be there in spirit!
Ooh, one thing to flag – Green’s really isn’t accessible for anyone who can’t do stairs. There’s a tiny winding staircase to the second floor and there are no seats on the ground floor. The second floor is cramped and you couldn’t get a wheelchair or mobility aid in there even if you could get up. (I do love Green’s, but that is sadly a major drawback.) I’m wracking my brains to think of an alternative suggestion, but an awful lot of cafes in Oxford tend towards tiny, cramped and full of stairs.
An accessible cafe I can think of off the top of my head is Combibos, on Gloucester Green square. (They’re also my favourite cafe, so I’m biased.)
I actually thought of suggesting Combibos – I’ve just discovered it, and it’s awesome! I only wondered if it was too small – but then, I don’t know how big an Oxford group will be.
Oh wow, Oxford meetup! And I’m actually around that day!
Combibos is also really nice and may not be that much smaller than Greens?
Oh no! I’m in Oxford on Saturday, but I’m working from 12-6. (Though if anyone feels like trekking out to Headington for more drinks after, feel free to pester me at The Butcher’s Arms. We’re wheelchair accessible and Saturday shifts are slow and boring.) Have fun everyone!
Okay, the consensus seems to be that Combibos is a better choice (I just nipped into Greens today and it sucks for accessibility. This is particularly annoying as I specifically said “accessible” to the friend I asked -.-). However, I’m concerned that people might not see the change of venue in time. So I’m going to keep it where it is and make sure I pick an accessible venue next time! My biggest apologies if this means you can’t come, and I will do better.
I am an Oxfordite but unfortunately I’m working that day or I’d be there. Have an awkward drink for me!
Caitlin, I’m sorry I didn’t see more of you while we were both in Bristol. I hope that this is the first of many meetups, and that we will get more chances in the future. I hear that Oxford is a lovely old city that I would enjoy, so I am looking forward to having an excuse to visit.
You would love Oxford. Such pretty glass everywhere! I am hoping that between us, the Oxford Awkwardeers will be able to organise a good number of meetups, so there should be plenty of opportunity to visit
I am also an Oxonian! I had no idea there were so many of us 🙂 Sadly I’m in London tomorrow as well (with another Awkwardeer), but it sounds like fun… have a great time 🙂
Come to the London meetup! 🙂
We now have an Oxford facebook group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/228599867299883/
Non-Oxford people TOTALLY WELCOME TO JOIN
So sorry I missed this! I’m also an Oxford Awkwardeer, so if there’s another event in the pipeline, let me know! I would love to meet more of the Awkward Army!
